BMW South Africa has debuted a striking collaboration between its automotive and motorcycle divisions, resulting in a limited-run collection that bridges the gap between the track and the road. According to RideApart, the project includes the M2 Coupé RR Edition, alongside matching versions of the M 1000 RR and S 1000 RR superbike.
The aesthetic theme centers on a stealth-focused Black Storm Metallic or Black Sapphire Metallic paint scheme, punctuated by high-contrast red detailing. For the motorcycles, this translates to red-accented carbon wheels, red-highlighted fuel tanks, and prominent red RR logos. Both the M 1000 RR and S 1000 RR models feature upgraded Akrapovič exhausts, signaling a more aggressive auditory presence.
Mechanically, the bikes retain the core performance of the standard models. The M 1000 RR continues to serve as a high-end homologation-style weapon, while the S 1000 RR receives similar cosmetic upgrades, including a tinted windscreen and an M-branded seat, to align with the limited-edition theme.
The automotive counterpart, the M2 Coupé RR Edition, undergoes a more comprehensive visual transformation. The car sits 20mm lower on red-spring M Performance suspension and features staggered 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels. The exterior is enhanced with black splitters, a roof spoiler, and a flow-through rear wing, all featuring red accents. Inside, the cabin receives red bolsters and contrast stitching, maintaining the aggressive, track-ready aesthetic.
Under the hood, the M2 retains its 473-horsepower twin-turbocharged inline-six engine. Notably, BMW continues to offer the choice between a six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed automatic, preserving the traditional driving experience for enthusiasts.
This initiative represents a significant commitment to the South African market. With only 10 units of the M2 RR Edition planned, the project avoids the pitfalls of mass-market scarcity marketing, opting instead for a genuine, localized celebration of the brand's performance heritage.
